Explore chain TVL across actual historical observations

The chain history observatory examines how reported DeFi balances evolved on one network. Select a supported chain and a history window to see actual dated values, changes between observations and the largest observed peak-to-trough contraction within the selected data.

Public DeFi observations load automatically with JavaScript. Provider timestamps, filters and CSV exports appear with the result.

Window boundaries are part of the result

The requested period runs backward from the latest available historical observation rather than assuming the newest point equals the current clock time. A baseline before or at the requested boundary is used where available. If the record begins later, the page discloses the shortened coverage. This allows a reader to distinguish a full-year request from a network that only has a few months of usable history.

Calculate drawdown from preceding observed peaks

For a hypothetical sequence of $10 billion, $12 billion, $9 billion and $11 billion, the maximum observed drawdown is negative 25%, from $12 billion to $9 billion. The last value is about 8.33% below the observed peak, while the first-to-last change is positive 10%. A single label such as growth would lose the distinction between these three measurements.

Compare histories using consistent definitions

The provider documents historical chain TVL exclusions, including liquid staking and double-counted TVL, so a current headline produced with another scope may differ. A larger USD balance does not itself prove new net deposits, and a smaller balance does not identify why capital declined. Changes in asset prices or data coverage need separate investigation. Use the chain momentum view for the endpoint comparison and the protocol history view to explore particular applications. The chart dates its observations, while the receipt indicator tells you when the response arrived; neither should be silently substituted for the other.
